Abstract

Children's mental health is an urgent global issue, with interpersonal communication playing a crucial role in psychosocial development. This study aims to analyze the relationship between the quality of interpersonal communication and the psychosocial status of children in Doridungga Village, Donggo District, Bima Regency. Using a quantitative cross-sectional design with total sampling of 127 elementary and junior high school-aged children, data were analyzed through univariate, bivariate (Pearson), and simple linear regression tests. The results of the univariate analysis showed that the dominant characteristics of respondents were aged 8–10 years, male, and at the elementary school level, with an average interpersonal communication quality of 1.50 and psychosocial status of 1.21. Bivariate analysis found a positive and significant but weak relationship (r=0.244, p=0.006) between interpersonal communication and children's psychosocial status. Simple linear regression confirmed a significant effect of interpersonal communication quality on children's psychosocial status (B=0.173, p=0.006), although its contribution was only 5.9% to the variation in psychosocial status. In conclusion, interpersonal communication is an important factor but not the only determinant of children's psychosocial status, therefore comprehensive interventions involving environmental and family factors are highly recommended to improve children's psychological well-being in rural areas.
