Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) is a chronic metabolic disease characterized by hyperglycemia resulting from impaired insulin secretion and insulin resistance. Chronic hyperglycemia may increase the risk of various complications, including liver dysfunction, which can be indicated by elevated levels of Serum Glutamic Pyruvic Transaminase (SGPT). SGPT examination serves as an indicator of hepatocellular injury and is therefore important in the evaluation of patients with T2DM. This study aimed to describe SGPT levels in patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus at RSD Idaman Banjarbaru. This research employed a retrospective descriptive study. A total of 54 patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus were included as the study sample using an accidental sampling technique. Data were obtained from laboratory examination results, medical records, and questionnaires. SGPT levels were measured using the BioSystems BA-200 analyzer with the enzymatic kinetic method. Data were analyzed using univariate analysis and presented as frequency distributions, percentages, mean values, minimum values, and maximum values. The results showed that most respondents were female, accounting for 30 patients (55.6%), and belonged to the 55–64 years age group, comprising 21 patients (38.9%). A total of 49 respondents (90.7%) had normal SGPT levels, while 5 respondents (9.3%) had elevated SGPT levels. In conclusion, the majority of patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus at RSD Idaman Banjarbaru had SGPT levels within the normal range. However, regular monitoring of liver function remains essential for the early detection of liver dysfunction.
