The Effect of Field Work Practice on Critical Thinking Skills and Job Readiness of Culinary Departement Students at SMK Pratama Widya Mandala Badung

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of Field Work Practice (FWP) on the critical thinking skills and work readiness of Culinary Department students at SMK Pratama Widya Mandala Badung. This research employed a quantitative approach using an ex post facto design and a correlational survey method. The sample consisted of 122 students who had completed Field Work Practice (FWP), and data were collected using a Likert-scale questionnaire. The results showed that Field Work Practice (FWP) had a positive and significant effect on critical thinking skills with a significance value of 0.000 (< 0.05), a t-value of 14.013 and a coefficient of determination of 0.621 indicating that 62.1% of the variance in critical thinking skills could be explained by Field Work Practice (FWP).  Furthermore, Field Work Practice (FWP) had a positive and significant effect on work readiness, with a significance value of 0.000 (< 0.05) a t-value of 10.595 and a coefficient of determination of 0.483, indicating that 48.3% of the variance in work readiness could be explained by Field Work Practice (FWP). The findings indicate that practical work experience not only enhances students critical thinking skills but also strengthens their readiness to face workplace demands. It can be concluded that Field Work Practice (FWP) plays a significant role in improving students’ critical thinking skills and work readiness. Therefore, the implementation should be optimized through structured supervision, relevant workplace placement, and active student participation to provide more meaningful learning experiences and better prepare students for the world of work.
