Abstrak

ABSTRAK
Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk membuktikan bahwa pemberian ekstrak Kappaphycus alvarezii secara oral mengurangi peningkatan berat badan dan berat lemak abdominal pada tikus jantan yang diberi diet tinggi karbohidrat dan lemak. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian eksperimental murni dengan menggunakan Post-test only Control Group Design. Subjek penelitian adalah 36 ekor tikus putih (Rattus norvegicus) jantan, galur Wistar, sehat, umur 3-4 bulan berat badan 140-160 gram yang terbagi menjadi 2 (dua) kelompok masing-masing berjumlah 18 ekor tikus, yaitu kelompok kontrol yang diberikan diet tinggi karbohidrat dan lemak + akuades (P0), dan kelompok yang diberikan diet tinggi karbohidrat dan lemak + ekstrak rumput laut (P1) selama 77 hari. Variabel yang diamati adalah berat badan dan berat lemak abdominal. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa rerata berat badan sesudah 77 hari perlakuan pada kelompok P0 adalah 296,39±6,88 gram, pada kelompok P1 adalah 269,28±3,95 gram (p<0,05). Rerata berat lemak abdominal pada kelompok P0 adalah 5,85±0,29 gram, pada kelompok P1 adalah 4,68±0,23 gram (p<0,05). Simpulan: Pemberian ekstrak rumput laut Kappaphycus alvarezii secara oral dapat mengurangi peningkatan berat badan dan berat lemak abdominal tikus jantan yang diberi diet tinggi karbohidrat dan lemak.

ABSTRACT
The purpose of this study was to prove that the oral administration of Kappaphycus alvarezii extract reduce the body weight gain and abdominal fat on male Wistar rats with high-fat and high-carbohydrate diets. This study was a true experimental research with post-test only control group design. The subjects used were 36 rats (Rattus norvegicus), male, Wistar, healthy, aged 3-4 months, with weight of 140-160 grams, divided into 2 groups which were: 1) the control group (P0) with high-fat and high-carbohydrate + placebo, 2) the treatment group P1 given high-fat and high carbohydrate + seaweed extract for 77 days. The variables measured were body weight and abdominal fat weight. The results showed that the average body weight after 77 days of treatment of P0 group was 296.39±6,88 gram, and P1 group was 269.28±3.95 gram (p<0,05). The mean weight of abdominal fat on P0 group was 5.85 ± 0.29 grams, the group P1 was 4.68 ± 0.23 grams (p <0.05 ). Conclusion: Oral administration of Kappaphycus alvarezii extract reduced body weight gain and abdominal fat deposition on male Wistar rats with high-fat and high-carbohydrate diets.
