Abstract

This study was conducted by retrospective approach. Incidence of senile cataract contributing factors identified in the past. To determine the influence of factors that cause the use case of the control group. The population is a visitor 's Hospital eye clinic Sense of Bali Province in May 2013, aged 40-59 years, residing in Denpasar, and is not suffering from other diseases such as diabetes and hypertension. Sample is determined by the sampling techniques samples obtained 35 cases and 35 controls were selected sample matched by age group and gender. Differences in consumption patterns of food sources of beta-carotene and antioxidant vitamin levels in cases and controls were statistically proved by calculation of Odds Ratio (OR).The results showed that as many as 25.7 % of patients with senile cataract consumption levels below the Recommanded Dietary Allowences (RDA) of vitamin A, while patients who are not as much as 88.6 % above the RDA. Consumption of vitamin C on senile cataract 88.6 % above the non- RDA while 97.1 % of cataract patients the level of vitamin C intake above the RDA. For consumption levels of vitamin E in patients with cataract 88.6 % and 54.3 % below the RDA consumption levels belowtheRDA.The average level of consumption of vitamin A, vitamin C and vitamin E on patients with cataract is lower that of non-cataract patients. The statistical test shows that there is a non significant difference in the rate of consumption of vitamin A and vitamin C, while vitamin E levels were significant differences in patient and non- patient cataract (p<0.005 ). People who take vitamin A is lower than the risk of senile cataract RDA has 2,683 times greater than those who consume vitamin A or above in accordance RDA.
