The Effect of Income Expectations in Bali's Tourism Sector on Vocational Students' Learning Interest and Work Readiness

This study aimed to analyze the effect of income expectations in Bali's tourism sector on students' interest in learning and readiness to work in the tourism sector. This study aims to analyze the influence of income expectations in Bali’s tourism sector on students’ interest in learning and their readiness to work in the tourism sector. The growth of Bali’s tourism sector has driven a significant increase in regional income; however, fluctuations in global conditions often affect its stability. This raises the question of how the income prospects of the tourism sector influence students’ motivation and readiness to learn and prepare themselves to enter the tourism workforce. The data was collected from students of who had carried out fieldwork practices. Data analysis was conducted using simple linear regression with the SPSS application to test the hypothesis of the relationship between income expectations and interest in learning, as well as income expectations and work readiness. The study indicated that income expectations positively influenced learning interest, contributing 24.9%, and also shaped students' work readiness in the tourism sector with a contribution of 27.3%. This finding indicated that as students perceive higher income expectations from the tourism sector, their interest in exploring the field and preparing themselves professionally increases. Socializing the realistic and promising income potential in the tourism sector was deemed as a solution to attract more students to study tourism. This study is expected to contribute to education policymakers and tourism industry practitioners in formulating sustainable human resource development strategies in Bali.
